About Wycombe 50 Plus

An Introduction

Wycombe 50 Plus was founded in 1983. Its objectives are to encourage physical activity and recreation for men and women over the age of 50.

The club is run by an Executive Committee of 12 members who are elected at the Annual General Meeting and are responsible for running all the sporting activities.

There is also a Social Committee which organises outings, trips to the theatre, Christmas events etc. A copy of the Constitution is available on request.

Membership

Membership of 50 Plus entitles members to take part in social activities run by the club and pays towards running costs of the club including balls, shuttles etc.
Non-members will be asked to contribute a small fee towards the equipment each time they play.

Applications for membership should be made through the Duty Officer between 10.00 – 11.00 on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Membership records are held on a computer system for ease of managing the details and the member's permission to do so is requested at the time of joining. The list is strictly confidential and access can only be gained by Executive and Social Committee members when it may be deemed necessary to contact a member of the club. The above permission allows the member's email address to be used to send out regular newsletters and the gazette. It should be noted facilites are available to 'unsubscribe' from this facility if not required.

Subscriptions

THE SUBSCRIPTION YEAR STARTS ON 1 OCTOBER AND SUBSCRIPTIONS MUST BE PAID BY 30 NOVEMBER

This income is used to run the club which is a non-profit making organisation.
The annual fee is set by the members at the AGM.

SPORTS CENTRE FEES
MEMBERS OF WYCOMBE 50 PLUS HAVE TO PAY AN ENTRANCE FEE TO THE SPORTS CENTRE FOR EACH ACTIVITY SESSION. All members must have Freestyle membership of the Sports Centre.

Activity Sessions

Current sessions are - Wednesdays and Fridays 10.00 – 1.00

There will be a short break for notices during each session when announcements are made to inform members of club activities and update them
of anything the Sports Centre wishes to bring to their attention.

A committee member acts as Duty Officer for each activity session and is responsible for supervising members and resolving any problems that may arise.

Sports Activities

Wycombe 50 Plus offers a large number of sports and members are invited to join in even if they have not played the sport before. Please
make the Duty Officer aware if you have never played the game so that we can arrange for someone suitable to partner you.

You will need to have your own racquet/bat but there will be a very limited number of these available for visitors to play with in the first instance.

The sports on offer include: Short Tennis, Racquetball, Badminton, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Pickleball and Short mat bowls.

Other activities on offer at the Centre include: Keep Fit *, Supple Strength *, Pilates *, Group Cycling *, Yoga *, Swimming *
* All these activities must be booked separately at Reception or online.

Game booking procedures

It is necessary to book court games by using the sports booking sheets laid out on the tables in the sports hall.
Bookings are for a period of 20 minutes, irrespective of whether the game has finished. (Racquetball will be for 30 minutes)
The detailed procedure is displayed on the tables and a copy of the rules is enclosed for your information.

Safety

In all activity sports it is advisable to 'warm up' before you start being energetic. Most members who join the club have done exercise in the past and it is part of our objective to get you fit again.

This takes time and exercise should be gradual – slow down gently when you feel tired, don't wait until you are exhausted. You should work to your own level of fitness and increase intensity as you progress.

If you do not feel well, report immediately to the Duty Officer who will call for help from trained Sports Centre staff.

There is very little space to pass behind the courts. As a matter of safety and courtesy PLEASE WAIT FOR THE END OF THE RALLY BEFORE WALKING BEHIND A GAME IN PROGRESS.

Clothing

Casual sports clothing should be worn. The activity areas are quite warm in the summer months so a removable sweater or cardigan is useful.

PROPER INDOOR COURT SHOES SHOULD BE WORN BY THOSE PLAYING SPORTS. No shoes with black soles should be worn for any activity as they mark the floors.

Changing Rooms

There are male and female changing rooms (with showers) and lockers near the main sports hall.

There are also changing rooms and lockers in the swimming area with showers beside the pool.

Suggestions

Wycombe 50 Plus is run for the benefit of its members and the Committee welcomes any constructive suggestions for improvements.

However, any decision made by them is final.
